🏛️ DOME Briefing: What Moves Florida Politics

Welcome to DOME, The Florida Pundit’s daily insider briefing covering the people, policies, campaigns, courts and controversies shaping Florida politics.

Under the Dome

Florida’s political landscape is entering a pivotal stretch as several of the state’s biggest issues continue to evolve heading into the 2026 General Election.

The campaign over Amendment 3 officially intensified Tuesday after opponents launched a statewide effort to defeat the proposed property tax overhaul while a separate lawsuit seeks to block what critics call misleading ballot language. The legal challenge now places one of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature tax priorities before a Leon County judge ahead of November’s vote.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court issued one of its most consequential campaign finance rulings in years, striking down federal limits on coordinated campaign spending between political parties and candidates. Florida Republicans quickly praised the decision, saying it restores First Amendment protections and strengthens political parties ahead of the 2026 election cycle.

Attorney General James Uthmeier also remains in the spotlight as his investigation into Major League Baseball’s Pride Night policies continues despite Commissioner Rob Manfred’s public explanation, which Uthmeier dismissed as failing to answer key questions regarding religious discrimination.

🗳️ Election Watch

• Opposition to Amendment 3 is becoming increasingly organized, with a new political committee warning the proposal could shift billions of dollars in tax burdens to renters, businesses and local governments.

• A Leon County court will determine whether Florida voters receive revised ballot language before deciding the property tax amendment this November.

• Candidate fundraising and endorsements are expected to accelerate after the close of the latest reporting period.

⚖️ Legal Brief

• The U.S. Supreme Court ruled coordinated campaign spending limits between political parties and candidates violate the First Amendment, potentially changing campaign operations nationwide.

• Florida’s ballot language challenge over Amendment 3 could become one of the state’s most significant election law cases before November.

🏛️ Executive Branch

Gov. Ron DeSantis reiterated support for Amendment 3 while acknowledging the Legislature’s proposal falls short of the broader property tax reforms he originally envisioned.

The Governor indicated he is unlikely to personally lead the campaign supporting the amendment.

⚖️ Attorney General Watch

James Uthmeier continues pressing Major League Baseball over alleged religious discrimination connected to Pride Night uniform policies, signaling Florida’s investigation remains active despite the league’s public response.

📊 Numbers to Watch

$11.86 Billion

Estimated annual reduction in local government property tax revenue if Amendment 3 is fully implemented, according to state fiscal analysts.

60%

The percentage of voter approval required for Amendment 3 to become part of the Florida Constitution.
