The Washington Post reports that special master U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie said Thursday that Trump’s legal team must confirm by September 30 whether they believe “any of the seized items were incorrectly described in the Justice Department’s 11-page inventory list, which stated that some of the documents were highly classified.”
Trump’s attorneys must also make clear whether they are contesting the theft of certain items on the list.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the FBI planted items during its search of his home, and “Dearie’s order, in essence, requires Trump’s attorneys to support their client’s claims,” continues the Post.

The government has until Monday to provide feedback on the quality of its own inventory list.
According to the order, it must also respond to “any factual disputes that Trump’s team raises in its filings,” as summarized by the Post.

Dearie stated that Trump’s attorneys and the government should conduct a rolling review of non-classified documents.
Prior to the Justice Department agreeing or disagreeing with this assertion, the former president’s team should review and flag any documents it believes to be privileged. Dearie would arbitrate any disagreements between the parties.

By October 21, all documents must be submitted to the special master. Dearie stated that former U.S. Magistrate Judge James Orenstein will assist him with his review.

The order issued on Thursday comes after an appellate court sided with the DOJ on Wednesday in its request to access approximately 100 classified documents during the special master review.

Slain Las Vegas journalist had Democratic county administrator’s DNA under fingernails https://localnewsalerts.com/slain-las-vegas-journalist-had-democratic-county-administrators-dna-under-fingernails/ https://localnewsalerts.com/slain-las-vegas-journalist-had-democratic-county-administrators-dna-under-fingernails/#respond Fri, 09 Sep 2022 16:57:37 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=2611 The DNA found under the fingernails of a murdered Las Vegas journalist matched that of a local county administrator arrested for his murder, a prosecutor told a judge this week. This is additional evidence linking the administrator to the murder of the journalist, which appears to have been motivated by revenge.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Richard Scow told Justice of the Peace Elana Lee Graham on Thursday that Jeff German, a former reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, had DNA matching that of Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles under his fingernails when he was discovered dead outside his home last week.

“The DNA is said to have been recovered from the victim’s hand, presumably during the time he was fighting for his life,” Graham said during Thursday’s hearing.
She also mentioned that police investigations revealed several defensive wounds on his body, indicating that he died while attempting to defend himself against the attack.

The murder charge against Telles has sparked rumors that the administrator may have committed the crime in retaliation for a series of reports authored by German, which commentators believe may have harmed the county official’s political career.

Investigations conducted by German suggested that Telles had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and may have also fostered a hostile work environment.
Telles’ primary bid for re-election failed in June, one month after German’s investigation was made public.

At the hearing on Thursday, Telles was denied bail and is due back in court on Tuesday.

Durham probe: Judge rejects Sussmann request to ‘strike’ special counsel’s ‘factual background’ https://localnewsalerts.com/durham-probe-judge-rejects-sussmann-request-to-strike-special-counsels-factual-background/ https://localnewsalerts.com/durham-probe-judge-rejects-sussmann-request-to-strike-special-counsels-factual-background/#respond Fri, 11 Mar 2022 03:36:25 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=189 On Thursday, the federal judge overseeing former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann’s case denied his motion to “strike” the “factual background” section of Special Counsel John Durham’s February filing.

Sussmann’s legal team asked the court last month to “strike” portions of Durham’s Feb. 11 filing, including the “Factual Background” section, claiming it would “taint” a jury pool.

“I’m not going to strike anything from the record,” said U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Judge Christopher Cooper during a status hearing on Thursday.”Whatever effect the filing has had has already passed.”

Durham claimed in a Feb. 11 filing with the “Factual Background” in question that Sussmann provided two U.S. government agencies with information from a tech executive attempting to link Donald Trump, who was running for president at the time, to Russia-based Alfa Bank.

Rodney Joffe has since been identified as the tech executive.
Joffe’s name is not mentioned in Durham’s filing, and he has not been charged with any crime.

Sussmann, Joffe, and Joffe’s associates, according to Durham, “exploited” internet traffic about a “specific healthcare provider,” Trump Tower, Trump’s Central Park West apartment building, and the Executive Office of the President of the United States in order to “establish ‘an inference’ and ‘narrative'” linking Trump to Russia.

According to Durham, Sussmann’s “billing records show” that he “repeatedly billed the Clinton campaign for his work” on the Alfa Bank allegations.

In its motion to “strike” the allegations, Sussmann’s legal team stated that Durham had “done more than simply file a document identifying potential conflicts of interest.”

“Rather, the special counsel has made another filing in this case that includes prejudicial — and false — allegations that are irrelevant to his motion and to the charged offense, and are clearly intended to politicize this case, inflame media coverage, and taint the jury pool,” Sussmann’s lawyers said.

While denying Sussmann’s motion to strike, Judge Cooper appeared to criticize the prosecution on Thursday, saying the latest “dust-up” strikes him as “a sideshow.”

Sussmann allegedly told then-FBI General Counsel James Baker in September 2016, less than two months before the 2016 presidential election, that he was not doing work “for any client” when he requested and held a meeting in which he presented “purported data and ‘white papers’ that allegedly demonstrated a covert communications channel” between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank, which has ties to the Kremlin.

Sussmann has also filed a motion to dismiss the case entirely.

Biden’s approval rating has been sinking the last few months https://localnewsalerts.com/bidens-approval-rating-has-been-sinking-the-last-few-months/ https://localnewsalerts.com/bidens-approval-rating-has-been-sinking-the-last-few-months/#respond Thu, 30 Sep 2021 16:59:58 +0000 https://themeunique.com/papermag/newspaper/?p=1059 According to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday, President Joe Biden’s approval rating has reached its lowest level since June.

According to the poll, 39% of voters approve of the job Biden is doing.
Specifically, 78 percent of Democrats approved of Biden’s job performance, up from 69 percent the previous month.
Biden’s approval rating fell to an all-time low of 36% in May.

As the covid-19 pandemic progressed, his approval rating began to fall around August of last year.
He then took a significant hit after the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan resulted in the country’s fall to the Taliban and the deaths of 13 US military personnel in an explosion.

Biden’s poll drop coincides with the passage of a number of key laws.
He signed the PACT Act on Tuesday, which will allow veterans who suffered health complications as a result of being exposed to combustion pits to receive health care benefits.
On Monday, he signed the CHIPS and Science Act, which will increase support for US semiconductor manufacturing in order to compete with China.

Furthermore, Senate Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 over the weekend, which will focus on combating the climate crisis and lowering prescription drug prices.
The bill was passed through budget reconciliation, allowing Democrats to pass it with all 50 of their caucus members present, and Vice President Kamala Harris broke the tie.

Crocodile tears? AOC breaks down in tears over Israel Iron Dome House vote https://localnewsalerts.com/crocodile-tears-aoc-breaks-down-in-tears-over-israel-iron-dome-house-vote/ https://localnewsalerts.com/crocodile-tears-aoc-breaks-down-in-tears-over-israel-iron-dome-house-vote/#respond Thu, 23 Sep 2021 22:27:00 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=215 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was observed crying after the House approved money for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system after altering her vote from “no” to “present” at the last minute.

On Thursday, the House approved a $1 billion bill to replenish Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ missile defense system, which had been depleted during a week of continuous rocket strikes by Palestinian terrorists this summer. The financing was initially included in a larger spending package, but it was voted on separately after progressives, including Ocasio-Cortez, threatened to scuttle the spending plan on Tuesday if it was not removed.

With two representatives voting ‘present,’ the financing bill passed by 420 votes to nine. Despite her prior opposition, Ocasio-Cortez changed her vote at the last minute from “no” to “present.”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington), who voted to arm Israel, consoled the New York Congresswoman on the House floor.

It’s unclear why Ocasio-Cortez changed her vote at the last minute, or if her tears were an indication of real sadness over the choice or a ploy to appease her progressive fans. Despite her campaign for defunding law enforcement some months prior, AOC has already split with her base, and voted ‘present’ on a plan to finance the Capitol Police by $2 billion earlier this year. By a single vote, the measure was passed.

AOC with fellow progressives Ilhan Omar (Minnesota), Rashida Tlaib (Michigan), Cori Bush (Missouri), and Ayanna Pressley (Massachusetts) are dubbed “The Squad” and are viewed as driving the Democratic Party to the left.

Despite this, Omar, Tlaib, Bush, and Pressley all voted against financing the Iron Dome, with Tlaib issuing a scathing criticism of Israel’s “violent apartheid” occupation of Palestine and “war crimes” against Palestinians.

AOC’s decision was quickly criticized by lefties online, and several pundits saw the vote as evidence of the New York progressive cozying up to the Democratic establishment in order to further her career.
