The Electoral Council reported that 74.1 percent of eligible voters participated in Sunday’s national referendum.

As of Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. ET, 94% of the votes had been counted, and 3,936,790 people had voted in favor of the new law compared to 1,950,010 against it, indicating overwhelming support.

The new family code grants LGBTQ couples the ability to marry and adopt children, as well as increases protections for women, children, and the elderly. Additionally, the code allows couples to adopt children.

On the communist-run island of Cuba, LGBTQ people have faced official discrimination for decades. After Fidel Castro’s rise to power in the early 1960s, many homosexuals were sent to government work camps alongside political dissidents. Despite the fact that homosexuality was legalized in Cuba in 1979, many homosexual men and women reported facing open discrimination.

Mariela Castro, daughter of former Cuban president Raul Castro, has openly advocated for improved rights for gays, lesbians, and transgender people through a government-funded center.
The push for greater equality, however, was met with opposition from both within and outside the Cuban government.

In 2018, Cuban legislators abandoned provisions that would have legalized same-sex marriage out of concern that a homophobic backlash would have reduced voter participation in a referendum on a new constitution.
The following year, Cuban police disrupted a peaceful LGBTQ rights parade on the grounds that the marchers lacked permission to hold the event.

The expanding evangelical community in Cuba had openly opposed the adoption of the family code.
In the weeks preceding the referendum, however, the Cuban government made a concerted effort to promote the new family code through state-run media, arguing that the new code demonstrates the island’s more than six-decade-old revolution’s ability to adapt to the times.

Fidel Castro was a revolutionary, a communist, and a rambling speaker. It should never be forgotten that he was an oppressor, torturer, and murderer of gay people, despite the fawning eulogies released upon his long-overdue death at the age of 90.

In the eyes of Fidel Castro and his revolutionary comrade Che Guevara, who frequently referred to gay men as maricones, or “faggots,” homosexuality was inherently counterrevolutionary and bourgeois. To the traditional Latin American machismo, which viewed homosexuality negatively, they wed an ideology that viewed it as politically undesirable.

Putting homosexuals in concentration camps was not the only Nazi practice Castro adopted. According to recently declassified German intelligence files, this so-called anti-fascist attempted to hire former SS officers to train his army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In spite of closing the UMAPs in the late 1960s, the Cuban government continued to repress homosexuals as ideologically subversive elements.
People who openly identified as homosexual were barred from joining the Communist Party and fired from their jobs.

Queen Elizabeth II dead at 96 https://localnewsalerts.com/queen-elizabeth-ii-dead-at-96/ https://localnewsalerts.com/queen-elizabeth-ii-dead-at-96/#comments Fri, 09 Sep 2022 11:50:49 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=2552 According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II died “peacefully” on Thursday afternoon, surrounded by family at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96.

Earlier in the day, officials announced that the queen was under “medical supervision” and that her family would travel to her summer residence in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to be by her side.

Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, who is 73 years old and Elizabeth’s eldest son, described the death of his mother as “a moment of the deepest sorrow” for the royal family.

Charles, who is now King Charles III, said in a prepared statement, “During this period of mourning and transition, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”

Camilla, his wife, is now the Queen Consort.

In her 70 years as monarch, Queen Elizabeth II is remembered as a stabilizing force for Britain.

The death of the queen was announced around 1:30 p.m. Londoners rushed into the street and to the front of 10 Downing Street, where a notice announcing her death was posted on the black iron gates.

“Her long service spanned beyond the majority of living memories,” U.K. The Prime Minister stated from outside the gates.
In return, she was loved and admired by the people of the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. She has been a personal inspiration to me and many Britons, and her devotion to duty is an example for all of us.

On Tuesday, one of the queen’s final official duties was to appoint Truss as the new prime minister.

However, for the first time in her 70-year reign, the queen appointed a new prime minister from a location other than Buckingham Palace, sparking rumors about her health.

After the queen’s death, the royal family’s website went completely dark, displaying only a photo of Elizabeth at her 1953 coronation and a statement about her passing.

Condolences are pouring in from all corners of the globe. Elizabeth “was more than a monarch; she defined an era,” said President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

They referred to her as the “first British monarch with whom people could feel an immediate and personal connection” via television and radio.

“We will always cherish our time together with the Queen and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor,” the former president and his wife said of Queen Elizabeth II.

When the Trumps met Queen Elizabeth as president, they said, “There was nobody like her!” and that the queen’s “remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose nation is still a member of the Commonwealth, stated, “Canadians will always remember and appreciate Her Majesty’s wisdom, compassion, and warmth.”

Following the plans that have already been made under Operation London Bridge, which is a guide for the entirety of the United Kingdom, the funeral for the queen is scheduled to take place at Westminster Abbey ten days, after the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Anonymous hacks Russian media censorship agency and leaks 340,000 files https://localnewsalerts.com/anonymous-hacks-russian-media-censorship-agency-and-leaks-340000-files/ https://localnewsalerts.com/anonymous-hacks-russian-media-censorship-agency-and-leaks-340000-files/#respond Fri, 11 Mar 2022 15:07:28 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=194 In the latest weakening of Putin’s war propaganda blitz, Anonymous hacked into Russia’s media censorship bureau and leaked 340,000 data files.

The hacktivists gained access to the Roskomnadzor federal agency in order to acquire confidential documents, which they subsequently passed on to the transparency organization Distributed Denial of Secrets (DDoSecrets), which published them online.

The cache of 820 megabytes of emails and attachments, some dated as recently as March 5, demonstrate how the Kremlin is banning any mention of their violent invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow is now calling a ‘special military operation.’

According to DDoSecrets, the Anonymous hacker stated that they ‘urgently thought the Russian people should have access to information concerning their government.’

The files concern the Russian republic of Bashkortostan, which has a population of four million people and is one of the largest in the federation.

The Russian media regulator, Roskomnadzor, restricted access to Facebook and Twitter before shutting them and threatened to block access to Wikipedia because of its article on the invasion.

On February 24, the agency issued an edict requiring all media outlets to solely use official, state-approved information sources or risk severe repercussions for propagating ‘fake news.’

When discussing Russia’s military actions in Ukraine, the phrases “war,” “invasion,” and “assault” were all banned.

Russian airstrike on Mariupol children’s hospital sparks outrage https://localnewsalerts.com/russian-airstrike-on-mariupol-childrens-hospital-sparks-outrage/ https://localnewsalerts.com/russian-airstrike-on-mariupol-childrens-hospital-sparks-outrage/#respond Thu, 10 Mar 2022 18:30:02 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=147 On Thursday, Ukrainian and British officials condemned a Russian airstrike on a maternity hospital in Mariupol, which killed three people.

As efforts to establish a wide cease-fire failed, emergency personnel redoubled their efforts to bring crucial food and medical supplies into besieged communities, as well as to evacuate devastated inhabitants.

The city council of Mariupol and Ukraine’s president both confirmed that a kid was among those killed in Wednesday’s attack on the southern port.
Another 17 individuals were injured, including pregnant women, doctors, and toddlers who were buried under the wreckage.

In many countries, images of pregnant women covered in dust and blood dominated news reports, bringing a new wave of horror to the two-week-old war sparked by Russia’s invasion, which has killed thousands of soldiers and civilians, displaced more than two million people, and shook the foundations of European security.

Thousands of people have been replaced within the country. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, stated on Thursday that roughly two million people — half the population of the capital’s metro region — have fled the city, which has turned into a fortress.

“Every street, every house… is fortified, and the territorial defense is bolstered.” In broadcast remarks, he stated, “Even those who never intended to change their attire are suddenly in uniform with machine guns in their hands.”

As Russian forces intensified their siege of Ukrainian cities, bombs were dropped on two hospitals in Zhytomyr, west of the capital, Kyiv, according to the mayor.
Since the Russian invasion began two weeks ago, the World Health Organization has recorded 18 strikes on medical facilities.

Russian soldiers have made little headway on the ground in recent days, according to Western sources as the war enters its third week.
They have, however, increased the shelling of Mariupol and other cities, trapping hundreds of thousands of civilians who are running out of food and water.

Temporary cease-fires intended to allow for evacuations and humanitarian aid have frequently broken down, with Ukraine accusing Russia of continuing to shell the country. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that 35,000 people were able to flee besieged areas on Wednesday and that more efforts were continuing on Thursday from towns and cities in eastern and southern Ukraine, including Mariupol, as well as Kyiv suburbs.

Despite three days of fruitless attempts to reach Mariupol, the city council broadcast a video on Thursday showing buses going along a highway with a note claiming that a convoy bearing food and medication was on its way.

“Everyone is working to help the Mariupol residents. And it will arrive,” stated Vadym Boychenko, the mayor of Kyiv.
