Jurors in Washington, DC, found the defendants guilty on all counts, including conspiracy to commit fraud, witness tampering, obstruction of a judicial proceeding, and conspiracy against citizens’ rights.

The investigation by special counsel Jack Smith found evidence that the former president attempted to overturn his loss to incumbent Joe Biden, leading to the charges.

According to the indictment, Trump and six other unnamed people planned to sabotage the results of the 2020 election. Prosecutors argued that Trump knew his claims about voter fraud were false but kept making them to “create a national atmosphere of mistrust and anger, and erode public faith in the administration of elections,” as reported by Reuters.

The ex-president has a court appearance scheduled for Thursday in federal court.

At a press conference broadcast around the world, Smith said that his office will seek a “speedy trial” of Trump for what he called an “unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy… fueled by the defendant’s lies.”

The Republican presidential candidate’s press office has characterized the allegations as an attempt by the Biden Administration to influence the outcome of the 2024 election.

The former president of the United States is facing his third criminal case in as many months.

After leaving office, Trump is accused of keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate and refusing to turn them over to the FBI or the Department of Justice for over a year. This has resulted in 37 charges against the president. The ex-president appeared in court in Miami last month and entered a not-guilty plea. He said the allegations against him are politically motivated, and that the Biden administration is trying to eliminate his main opponent before the election.

Also in April, Trump was charged with “falsifying New York business records to conceal harmful information and illegal activities from American voters before and after the 2016 election.” Even the businessman denied any wrongdoing.

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters broke through police lines and surrounded the US Congress in Washington, D.C., causing many lawmakers to flee or seek shelter. During the riots, five people were killed and about 140 police officers were hurt.

Trump called for a march on the Legislative headquarters to “prevent theft” of the elections in an address to his supporters not long before the assault on the Capitol.

Over a thousand people have been arrested and charged in connection with the crimes.

BofA predicts a new 2022 low for the stock market in October after a strong jobs report bolsters the Fed’s case for hawkish rate hikes https://localnewsalerts.com/bofa-predicts-a-new-2022-low-for-the-stock-market-in-october-after-a-strong-jobs-report-bolsters-the-feds-case-for-hawkish-rate-hikes/ https://localnewsalerts.com/bofa-predicts-a-new-2022-low-for-the-stock-market-in-october-after-a-strong-jobs-report-bolsters-the-feds-case-for-hawkish-rate-hikes/#respond Sun, 09 Oct 2022 01:37:17 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=3022 Michael Hartnett of Bank of America predicts that the US stock market will reach a new low in October due to September’s strong employment report.

The US economy added 263,000 jobs in February, exceeding expectations of 255,000, and the unemployment rate fell from 3.5% to 3.5%.
The employment report reinforced the Federal Reserve’s view that policymakers must continue to raise interest rates to slow the economy and control inflation.

And inflation is a real problem — not just in the United States, but worldwide, according to Hartnett, who estimates that nearly 2 billion people are experiencing inflation rates of approximately 10%, while 1.3 billion people are experiencing inflation rates of greater than 15%.

Hartnett pointed out valuation extremes that could be moderated further despite the market’s high inflation and ongoing concerns, indicating that there appears to be more downside potential despite the market’s high inflation and ongoing concerns.
He noted, for instance, that Tesla’s market capitalization is equivalent to that of the entire European banking sector and that US equities as a proportion of the MSCI World Index have just reached a new record high of 66%.

However, even Hartnett is tempted to purchase stocks in light of the nearly 25% decline in the S&P 500 year-to-date.
“So tempting to be a contrarian bull,” he said, citing the 15x forward price-to-earnings ratio of US stocks and the bearish consensus among investors.

Despite these optimistic indicators, Hartnett anticipates a difficult economic landing in 2023.”The only question for investors in 2023 is whether the economy will experience a hard landing or a soft landing,” BofA stated.

The argument for a hard landing includes the notion that if the Fed is indeed committed to achieving its 2% inflation target, Wall Street will continue to feel the effects of an interest rate shock. Hartnett noted that the average unemployment rate at the time of the last rate hike in previous rate-hiking cycles was 5.7%, indicating that job losses may be imminent.

And potential job losses could strain the economy and the banking system. He stated, “Risk of credit event remains extremely high.”

Cuba legalizes same-sex marriage https://localnewsalerts.com/cuba-legalizes-same-sex-marriage/ https://localnewsalerts.com/cuba-legalizes-same-sex-marriage/#respond Tue, 27 Sep 2022 00:47:09 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=3017 Cuba has legalized same-sex marriage after Cubans voted in favor of a family code that increased protections for minorities on the island, according to the country’s National Electoral Council on Monday.

The Electoral Council reported that 74.1 percent of eligible voters participated in Sunday’s national referendum.

As of Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. ET, 94% of the votes had been counted, and 3,936,790 people had voted in favor of the new law compared to 1,950,010 against it, indicating overwhelming support.

The new family code grants LGBTQ couples the ability to marry and adopt children, as well as increases protections for women, children, and the elderly. Additionally, the code allows couples to adopt children.

On the communist-run island of Cuba, LGBTQ people have faced official discrimination for decades. After Fidel Castro’s rise to power in the early 1960s, many homosexuals were sent to government work camps alongside political dissidents. Despite the fact that homosexuality was legalized in Cuba in 1979, many homosexual men and women reported facing open discrimination.

Mariela Castro, daughter of former Cuban president Raul Castro, has openly advocated for improved rights for gays, lesbians, and transgender people through a government-funded center.
The push for greater equality, however, was met with opposition from both within and outside the Cuban government.

In 2018, Cuban legislators abandoned provisions that would have legalized same-sex marriage out of concern that a homophobic backlash would have reduced voter participation in a referendum on a new constitution.
The following year, Cuban police disrupted a peaceful LGBTQ rights parade on the grounds that the marchers lacked permission to hold the event.

The expanding evangelical community in Cuba had openly opposed the adoption of the family code.
In the weeks preceding the referendum, however, the Cuban government made a concerted effort to promote the new family code through state-run media, arguing that the new code demonstrates the island’s more than six-decade-old revolution’s ability to adapt to the times.

Fidel Castro was a revolutionary, a communist, and a rambling speaker. It should never be forgotten that he was an oppressor, torturer, and murderer of gay people, despite the fawning eulogies released upon his long-overdue death at the age of 90.

In the eyes of Fidel Castro and his revolutionary comrade Che Guevara, who frequently referred to gay men as maricones, or “faggots,” homosexuality was inherently counterrevolutionary and bourgeois. To the traditional Latin American machismo, which viewed homosexuality negatively, they wed an ideology that viewed it as politically undesirable.

Putting homosexuals in concentration camps was not the only Nazi practice Castro adopted. According to recently declassified German intelligence files, this so-called anti-fascist attempted to hire former SS officers to train his army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In spite of closing the UMAPs in the late 1960s, the Cuban government continued to repress homosexuals as ideologically subversive elements.
People who openly identified as homosexual were barred from joining the Communist Party and fired from their jobs.

Trump’s team asked to prove by Mar-a-Lago special master that FBI planted evidence https://localnewsalerts.com/trumps-team-asked-to-prove-by-mar-a-lago-special-master-that-fbi-planted-evidence/ https://localnewsalerts.com/trumps-team-asked-to-prove-by-mar-a-lago-special-master-that-fbi-planted-evidence/#respond Thu, 22 Sep 2022 23:47:15 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=3013 The Mar-a-Lago investigation’s special master has requested that former President Donald Trump’s attorneys state in a court filing whether they believe FBI agents lied about the materials seized from Trump’s Florida estate in August.

The Washington Post reports that special master U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie said Thursday that Trump’s legal team must confirm by September 30 whether they believe “any of the seized items were incorrectly described in the Justice Department’s 11-page inventory list, which stated that some of the documents were highly classified.”
Trump’s attorneys must also make clear whether they are contesting the theft of certain items on the list.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the FBI planted items during its search of his home, and “Dearie’s order, in essence, requires Trump’s attorneys to support their client’s claims,” continues the Post.

The government has until Monday to provide feedback on the quality of its own inventory list.
According to the order, it must also respond to “any factual disputes that Trump’s team raises in its filings,” as summarized by the Post.

Dearie stated that Trump’s attorneys and the government should conduct a rolling review of non-classified documents.
Prior to the Justice Department agreeing or disagreeing with this assertion, the former president’s team should review and flag any documents it believes to be privileged. Dearie would arbitrate any disagreements between the parties.

By October 21, all documents must be submitted to the special master. Dearie stated that former U.S. Magistrate Judge James Orenstein will assist him with his review.

The order issued on Thursday comes after an appellate court sided with the DOJ on Wednesday in its request to access approximately 100 classified documents during the special master review.

Intel Breaks Ground On $20B Chip Facility In Ohio https://localnewsalerts.com/intel-breaks-ground-on-20b-chip-facility-in-ohio/ https://localnewsalerts.com/intel-breaks-ground-on-20b-chip-facility-in-ohio/#respond Fri, 09 Sep 2022 19:41:24 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=2627 Intel broke ground on a site in Ohio that will house a $20 billion semiconductor manufacturing campus on Friday.

The construction and opening of the campus will generate 7,000 union construction jobs and 3,000 full-time positions with an average annual salary of $135,000. Not all of these positions will require a bachelor’s degree.

In August, in the presence of Intel, Micron Technology, IBM, Lockheed Martin, HP Inc., and AMD executives, Vice President Biden signed the bipartisan $280 billion CHIPS Act to stimulate domestic high-tech manufacturing.

According to Licking County, Ohio records, the Santa Clara, California-based tech giant purchased 750 acres for its semiconductor campus for approximately $111 million through its subsidiary Growth Site LLC. The property consists of parcels on Clover Valley Road and Green Chapel Road.

Kent Tibbils, vice president of marketing at ASI, a national distributor of IT hardware and software products based in Fremont, California, stated that any investment in U.S. manufacturing is positive, particularly for semiconductors.

“These factories represent long-term, highly skilled job growth across a broad range of industries, including construction, logistics, manufacturing equipment costing millions of dollars per machine, and many others,” he wrote in an email.”The most significant implication for the distribution channel is that the diversification of manufacturing in various geographies will strengthen the supply, improve delivery, and ultimately accelerate the release of new technology.”

Gelsinger stated that the CHIPS Act was the most significant piece of industrial policy legislation passed by Congress since World War II.

The CHIPS and Science Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act enabled construction. Intel stated that investing in revitalizing the U.S. chipmaking ecosystem will yield a wide range of economic benefits while restoring balance, dependability, and resilience to the global semiconductor supply chain.

Slain Las Vegas journalist had Democratic county administrator’s DNA under fingernails https://localnewsalerts.com/slain-las-vegas-journalist-had-democratic-county-administrators-dna-under-fingernails/ https://localnewsalerts.com/slain-las-vegas-journalist-had-democratic-county-administrators-dna-under-fingernails/#respond Fri, 09 Sep 2022 16:57:37 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=2611 The DNA found under the fingernails of a murdered Las Vegas journalist matched that of a local county administrator arrested for his murder, a prosecutor told a judge this week. This is additional evidence linking the administrator to the murder of the journalist, which appears to have been motivated by revenge.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Richard Scow told Justice of the Peace Elana Lee Graham on Thursday that Jeff German, a former reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, had DNA matching that of Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles under his fingernails when he was discovered dead outside his home last week.

“The DNA is said to have been recovered from the victim’s hand, presumably during the time he was fighting for his life,” Graham said during Thursday’s hearing.
She also mentioned that police investigations revealed several defensive wounds on his body, indicating that he died while attempting to defend himself against the attack.

The murder charge against Telles has sparked rumors that the administrator may have committed the crime in retaliation for a series of reports authored by German, which commentators believe may have harmed the county official’s political career.

Investigations conducted by German suggested that Telles had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and may have also fostered a hostile work environment.
Telles’ primary bid for re-election failed in June, one month after German’s investigation was made public.

At the hearing on Thursday, Telles was denied bail and is due back in court on Tuesday.

Queen Elizabeth II dead at 96 https://localnewsalerts.com/queen-elizabeth-ii-dead-at-96/ https://localnewsalerts.com/queen-elizabeth-ii-dead-at-96/#comments Fri, 09 Sep 2022 11:50:49 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=2552 According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II died “peacefully” on Thursday afternoon, surrounded by family at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96.

Earlier in the day, officials announced that the queen was under “medical supervision” and that her family would travel to her summer residence in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to be by her side.

Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, who is 73 years old and Elizabeth’s eldest son, described the death of his mother as “a moment of the deepest sorrow” for the royal family.

Charles, who is now King Charles III, said in a prepared statement, “During this period of mourning and transition, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”

Camilla, his wife, is now the Queen Consort.

In her 70 years as monarch, Queen Elizabeth II is remembered as a stabilizing force for Britain.

The death of the queen was announced around 1:30 p.m. Londoners rushed into the street and to the front of 10 Downing Street, where a notice announcing her death was posted on the black iron gates.

“Her long service spanned beyond the majority of living memories,” U.K. The Prime Minister stated from outside the gates.
In return, she was loved and admired by the people of the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. She has been a personal inspiration to me and many Britons, and her devotion to duty is an example for all of us.

On Tuesday, one of the queen’s final official duties was to appoint Truss as the new prime minister.

However, for the first time in her 70-year reign, the queen appointed a new prime minister from a location other than Buckingham Palace, sparking rumors about her health.

After the queen’s death, the royal family’s website went completely dark, displaying only a photo of Elizabeth at her 1953 coronation and a statement about her passing.

Condolences are pouring in from all corners of the globe. Elizabeth “was more than a monarch; she defined an era,” said President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

They referred to her as the “first British monarch with whom people could feel an immediate and personal connection” via television and radio.

“We will always cherish our time together with the Queen and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor,” the former president and his wife said of Queen Elizabeth II.

When the Trumps met Queen Elizabeth as president, they said, “There was nobody like her!” and that the queen’s “remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose nation is still a member of the Commonwealth, stated, “Canadians will always remember and appreciate Her Majesty’s wisdom, compassion, and warmth.”

Following the plans that have already been made under Operation London Bridge, which is a guide for the entirety of the United Kingdom, the funeral for the queen is scheduled to take place at Westminster Abbey ten days, after the death of Queen Elizabeth.

WHO: COVID-19 pandemic is “far from over” https://localnewsalerts.com/who-covid-19-pandemic-is-far-from-over/ https://localnewsalerts.com/who-covid-19-pandemic-is-far-from-over/#respond Sat, 19 Mar 2022 23:03:05 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=262 A WHO spokesperson said on Friday that the end of the COVID-19 pandemic was still a long way off, citing an increase in cases in the organization’s most recent weekly data.

The United Nations’ health agency has previously stated that the pandemic’s acute phase could end this year, depending on how quickly we meet its goal of vaccinating 70% of the population in each country, among other factors.

Margaret Harris, when asked about the timing of the pandemic’s end by a journalist at a Geneva press conference, said it was “far from over.” “We are unquestionably in the midst of a pandemic,” she added.

COVID-19 cases began to rise around the world last week, according to the WHO, after a month of decline, with lockdowns in Asia and China’s Jilin province battling to contain an outbreak.

According to the WHO, the increases were caused by a combination of factors, including the highly transmissible omicron variant and its cousin, the BA.2 sub-variant, as well as the lifting of public health and social measures.

Since the virus’s arrival in the Americas two years ago, 149 million COVID-19 cases have been reported, with 2.6 million deaths. The Assistant Director also warned that the current increase in cases in other parts of the world should serve as a “warning sign” for the Americas. New infections have increased by 28.9 percent in the Western Pacific region, 12.3 percent in Africa, and nearly 2 percent in Europe.

As COVID-19 vaccination spreads throughout the Americas, countries must continue to prioritize the protection of the most vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, immune-compromised people, health care workers, and other high-risk groups, according to Pan American Health Organization Assistant Director Jarbas Barbosa.

Disney employees among those arrested in Florida human trafficking operation https://localnewsalerts.com/disney-employees-among-those-arrested-in-florida-human-trafficking-operation/ https://localnewsalerts.com/disney-employees-among-those-arrested-in-florida-human-trafficking-operation/#respond Fri, 18 Mar 2022 14:17:53 +0000 https://localnewsalerts.com/?p=224 According to a Fox News report, detectives in Polk County, Florida, reported that several Disney employees and a former judge were among the more than 108 people arrested during an operation focused on human trafficking, prostitution, and child predators.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, the six-day undercover operation dubbed “Operation March Sadness 2” began on March 8 and resulted in 108 arrests.
According to the sheriff’s office, four suspects are Disney employees. Based on the most recent CBS News report, Disney has placed these employees on unpaid leave.

“Alone, the arrests of a human trafficker and four child predators make the entire operation worthwhile.”
“The online prostitution industry both facilitates and victimizes traffickers,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a news release.
“Our goal is to identify victims, assist them, and find and arrest those who profit from human exploitation.”

According to reports, authorities also arrested a man who worked at The Fun Spot, a local amusement park in Orlando, and was a former judge in the Cook County 4th Sub Circuit Court. According to Judd, he has asked for an attorney.

“Xavier Jackson, 27, worked as a lifeguard for Walt Disney at the Polynesian Resort, Jackson sent inappropriate photos and messages to an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl. According to CBS News, he was charged with “three counts of transmitting harmful material to a minor and one count of unlawful communication.”

The three others, who were allegedly attempting to solicit a prostitute, were identified by Judd as Wilkason Fidele, 24, who worked at Walt Disney World’s Tomorrowland’s Cosmic Restaurant for four years; Shubham Malave, 27, who is on visa citizenship from India and worked as a software developer for Disney; and Ralph Leese, 45, who spent nearly four years working in IT for Disney,” according to the report.

Fox News reported that undercover police officers talked with the suspects online and arranged for a meetup at a location where they were apprehended following their arrival. Also, according to FOX35 in Orlando, one couple traveled all the way to Bradenton to collect $1,000 for sex.

During a news conference on Wednesday, Judd also stated, “Where there is prostitution, there is exploitation, disease, dysfunction, and broken families.”

A detective notes in the incident report released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando that Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany indicated the fractures “would have startled Mr. Saget” and caused dizziness.
People would have noticed if he had been among them at the time “Confusion, balance, and/or slurred speech,” according to the investigation.
It does not specify the location of Saget’s fall.

After an examination in January, the medical examiner ruled that Saget died as a result of an unintentional blow to the head, most likely from a backward fall.
Investigators who were called to Saget’s luxurious hotel suite found no indication of a struggle, foul play, or indicators that anybody else had been in the suite during his stay.
A toxicology examination revealed no illegal drugs or poisons in Saget’s body. According to the investigation, there was no evidence of blood on the hotel bed’s sheets or bedspread.

Saget’s body was examined at the hotel suite and found to have mild edema and little bruising in the corner of his left eye.”There were no other indicators of any form of trauma or injury,” according to the study.

On Jan. 9, a hotel security officer discovered the 65-year-old entertainer on his hotel bed at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando after he forgot to check out of the hotel and his family requested a well-being check.

The door of Saget’s suite had been latched from the inside, so a hotel maintenance person had to be summoned to open it.
Despite the fact that the door between Saget’s suite and the neighboring room was determined to be open, data on the hotel’s electronic locks revealed that no one had been in the adjoining room since Jan. 7, two days before Saget’s body was discovered, according to the report.

Saget was married to Kelly Rizzo Saget and had three daughters from a previous marriage. He was best known for his roles as adored single dad Danny Tanner on the sitcom “Full House” and as the wisecracking presenter of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”

Saget was on tour with his “I Don’t Do Negative Comedy Tour” at the time of his death, and he indicated soon before his death that he had received enthusiastic crowd receptions in Orlando and the Ponte Vedra Beach resort region.

On Monday, a Florida judge decided to make a temporary injunction prohibiting the release of images, video, or any other data relevant to the inquiry into Saget’s death permanent. Saget’s family had launched a lawsuit in order to obtain the decree.
