TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia has signed a memorandum of understanding between the Florida State Treasury and the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Fraud Enforcement Division, creating a new data-sharing partnership aimed at strengthening fraud prevention, criminal investigations, and financial crime enforcement.

Florida has also expanded its own fraud enforcement efforts in recent years. In July, Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announced that the Department of Financial Services had made 1,219 fraud-related arrests, underscoring the state’s broader focus on combating financial crimes.

Under the agreement, the Florida State Treasury will share publicly available payment transaction data with federal investigators to support fraud prevention, fraud detection, criminal investigations, financial crime analysis, and other related law enforcement activities. State officials said the partnership will also help identify organized fraud schemes and improve coordination between Florida and federal agencies.

Fraudsters continue to plague our country by deceiving victims to put money into their own wallets,” Ingoglia said in a statement. “By solidifying our partnership with the Department of Justice, we can enhance our capabilities to root out and detect fraud faster

The memorandum of understanding allows the Florida State Treasury to share publicly available payment transaction data with the Justice Department’s National Fraud Enforcement Division to support fraud detection and financial crime investigations.

Florida is one of several Southeastern states participating in the new partnership, joining Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina in expanding collaboration with the Justice Department’s Fraud Division. The department said the agreements are intended to improve communication between agencies while helping investigators detect fraud before financial losses escalate.

Strengthening Fraud Investigations

According to the Justice Department, the partnership will allow federal and state agencies to share investigative information more efficiently, coordinate enforcement strategies, and pursue cases involving government program fraud, health care fraud, consumer fraud, and other financial crimes.

Officials said fraud schemes have become increasingly complex, making collaboration between agencies essential to identifying criminal networks that frequently operate across multiple jurisdictions.

Part of Broader Fraud Enforcement Effort

The Florida partnership is part of a larger national initiative by the Justice Department to increase fraud enforcement through closer coordination with state governments. Similar partnerships have already been announced in other states as federal prosecutors expand efforts to combat fraud affecting taxpayers and government benefit programs.

Justice Department officials said the broader strategy emphasizes early detection through improved data analysis, information sharing, and coordinated investigations involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Florida’s Role

The announcement comes as Florida continues strengthening oversight of taxpayer-funded programs and public accountability initiatives across state government.

The initiative is expected to support investigations involving public corruption, health care fraud, government program fraud, financial crimes, and other offenses where state and federal cooperation can improve investigative outcomes.

Growing Focus on Fraud Prevention

The Justice Department has increasingly emphasized fraud prevention and interagency cooperation as part of its national enforcement strategy, arguing that earlier detection can reduce taxpayer losses and improve the government’s ability to recover stolen funds.

The Florida Pundit has also reported on Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s recent enforcement actions, reflecting the state’s broader focus on government accountability.

Federal officials say partnerships like the one announced with Florida are intended to strengthen enforcement while ensuring agencies can respond more quickly to emerging fraud schemes that affect both taxpayers and public programs.
