Florida Capitol and statewide political developments featured in The Florida Pundit's DOME Briefing for July 3, 2026.

šŸ›ļø DOME is The Florida Pundit’s daily briefing on the people, policies, campaigns, courts and controversies shaping Florida politics.

Good morning from Tallahassee.

Florida politics heads into the Independence Day holiday with statewide campaigns gaining momentum, Republican legislative leaders consolidating support behind key Cabinet candidates, and the debate over the state’s proposed property tax amendment continuing to dominate the political landscape.

Here’s what we’re watching before the holiday weekend.

šŸ›ļø Under the Dome

Incoming Senate President Jim Boyd and House Speaker-designate Sam Garrison have endorsed Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, and Attorney General James Uthmeier, giving the Republican Cabinet candidates another major boost as the 2026 election season accelerates.

The endorsements reinforce growing unity among Republican leadership and follow the pair’s recent endorsement of Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds.

For Florida voters, the endorsements signal which statewide candidates legislative leaders expect to work alongside when a new Legislature convenes after the November elections.

Continue following our complete Florida Elections 2026 coverage.

šŸ—³ļø Election Watch

Campaigns are expected to slow briefly for the Independence Day holiday before resuming an intense summer schedule of fundraising, endorsements and voter outreach.

Several statewide contests—including Governor, Attorney General, Chief Financial Officer and Agriculture Commissioner—remain among Florida’s most closely watched races heading into the August primary.

The Florida Pundit will continue tracking candidate announcements, endorsements, polling and official election filings throughout the campaign.

Read more in our Politics section.

šŸ’° Money Trail

Campaign fundraising remains one of the strongest indicators of political momentum.

Candidates continue filing campaign finance reports while outside political committees increase spending ahead of the August primary election.

The Florida Pundit will continue monitoring fundraising reports, independent expenditures and major donor activity throughout the election cycle.

āš–ļø Legal Brief

The proposed constitutional amendment addressing Florida property taxes remains one of the most significant issues facing voters this November.

Supporters argue the proposal provides meaningful tax relief for homeowners, while opponents warn it could substantially reduce local government revenues and affect funding for services unless replacement revenue sources are identified.

Election officials also continue preparing for upcoming candidate qualifying deadlines, ballot certification and vote-by-mail administration.

🐊 The Swamp

Government accountability continues to define Florida’s political conversation.

State officials remain focused on audits, oversight, ethics, public spending and transparency initiatives that could become major campaign issues as statewide races intensify.

The Florida Pundit will continue reporting on investigations, public records, taxpayer spending and state government accountability.

Visit our Investigations section for continuing coverage.
