José Javier Rodriguez and Attorney General James Uthmeier during Florida's 2026 Attorney General race

Democratic Attorney General nominee José Javier Rodriguez posted a stronger fundraising performance than incumbent Attorney General James Uthmeier during the first 12 days of June, according to newly released campaign finance reports.

Rodriguez raised a combined $86,800 through his campaign account and affiliated political committee between June 1 and June 12, significantly outpacing the $27,300 reported by Uthmeier during the same period.

The figures provide an early sign that Democrats are preparing to seriously contest the Attorney General race, even as Republicans continue to hold a substantial financial advantage statewide.

Rodriguez, a former state senator who later served in the Biden administration, secured the Democratic nomination earlier this month and has quickly begun building support among donors and party activists. His fundraising performance suggests Democrats see the race as an opportunity to challenge one of Florida’s highest-profile statewide offices.

However, despite Rodriguez’s stronger fundraising period, Uthmeier remains in a commanding position financially.

The incumbent Republican entered the election cycle with an established statewide fundraising network and the advantages that come with holding office. Those factors continue to provide Republicans with a significant edge as the campaign moves toward the general election.

The Attorney General’s race is expected to focus heavily on issues such as crime, immigration enforcement, consumer protection, public safety, and government accountability.

Uthmeier has built much of his political profile through legal challenges involving federal policies, immigration enforcement, and conservative policy priorities. Rodriguez, meanwhile, is expected to emphasize consumer issues, affordability concerns, and legal oversight as key campaign themes.

While the Governor’s race has attracted most of the political attention so far, the Attorney General contest could emerge as one of Florida’s most competitive statewide races.

Fundraising reports over the coming months will provide a clearer picture of whether Rodriguez can continue narrowing the financial gap and build the infrastructure needed for a statewide campaign.

For now, Democrats can point to a fundraising victory during the first half of June. Republicans, however, still hold the advantage in the race’s larger financial picture.
